though Klonoa is a video game, I'm posting it here because I want to specifically discuss character design and style moreso than gameplay or plot. however if mods feel it should go in the video games board anyway i have no problem with it. edit: why did I think there was a video games board? I'm too used to forums that have the standard games-anime-movies-etc board setup, LOL.

At least for me Klonoa and especially the character designs from Klonoa 2 onward are synonymous with the chibifur aesthetic. The designs are bold, unique, often almost symbolic. They use simple shapes and distinct colors. They use real animals as a jumping off point moreso than a template - our Dream Traveler himself is supposedly a cat, despite his long, fluffy ears. 

Plus, there's the dreamlike, ethereal aesthetic of the games. They take place in dreams, but deal with strong emotions. The music, particularly in Door to Phantomile, furthers this atmosphere, influenced by new age, world music and DnB. 

I want to ask everybody else if they find themselves nostalgically influenced by Klonoa, as it's a strong influence on me.
