mspsint is my fav art program. its so down to the roots and simple that anybody can pick up on it. photoshop and clip studio and stuff have a lot more functionality but can be really taxing on computers and also on the file sizes of the end product! daunting to new users and older/less robust machines

like you said, with mspaint you can just hop in and do what you wanna do. any extra bells and whistles can be done in other programs

i also enjoy its ease of access (the ui is fairly simple for even a complete novice), and i like the limitations (though not everyone does - google search "layers in ms paint" "transparency ms paint" etc lol), my main gripe is win7+ paint doesnt have a dark mode >_>

i love using mspaint!! i find that the limitations of it make it a lot more fun to use, and i always love that pixel-y style!! i use it constantly hehe!

at this point i really feel like mspaint is the "art program of all time."


there's definitely more advanced contenders with better qol features, but there's something really joyous about mspaint's simplicity that allows for even the most non-computer savvy person to pick it up easily for doodling and editing too. i still go back to it time and time again and its limitations, and "secret" advanced features and shortcuts, both promote a sincere lack of pressure while creating that i really appreciate. i really like seeing people using it to showcase just how much you can do within it, regardless of its small arsenal of tools, if you dedicate the time and patience for it too. like the abundance of incredible animations/amv's, comics, and drawings alike that have been made with it that i hold pretty dear to me.

also, since it's a bit relevant for this thread, i thought i'd mention jspaint.app since it's a widely available version of the classic mspaint!

ive used primarily different OSes up until mid 2020 when i switched back to windows for a bit. Mspaint was my easy go to drawing program for, well, anything for a while since my laptop wasn't the best (partially why i gravitate to older programs such as pre 2013 Flash as well). It's really fun to mess around and doodle with or to really challenge myself with its limitations when making complicated art pieces.
