RSS feeds are a great way to see all the posts you want in one place, ad-free. You can also use them to keyword/trigger filter if you need that for a website that doesn't have that feature. Tumblr, Reddit, most comic websites including e.g. comicfury, Youtube, basically every podcast and forum and webserial website, and so many other websites have it as an option.
Even this here forum has them! Copy this link into your RSS feed to get alerted every time a new post is made on here: teensyangl.boards.net/rss/public
I use Feedbro with Firefox because it's free.
One reason I like RSS feeds is that they let you browse without having to have an account. For example, I use RSS to follow updates/early closures from some local stores on Facebook. I don't have Facebook and this lets me avoid all the annoying "make an account" pop-ups.
I really like RSS feeds to help with intentional internet usage. You can set it so you only get alerted to new posts e.g. once a day. And then once you're done the posts, you can leave. There is no infinite scroll. I make sure I only put accounts I really like in it, and if an account ever makes me feel bad, I instead bookmark it and visit it on the website normally if I want to look at it. That way I have better control over if it might ruin my mood.
RSS feeds are also great for organization. Instead of having to have "here are accounts I follow on Twitter" and "here are accounts I follow on Tumblr" you could sort them by fandom, by topic, by whether or not you know them irl, how often they post, etc. I find that helps a lot with the attention residue/brain weirdness I get from constantly having the topic change when reading online, something that forums also help to avoid.
Even if a website doesn't have RSS, you can sometimes use other websites to help with it. I think they're broken now, but for a while you could use RSS with Twitter by using a third-party website. Another example is that a comic I follow doesn't have an RSS feed, so instead I have one set up for when a new "update discussion" post is made on its subreddit.
Do you use an RSS feed? Which one? What are some of your favourite websites or accounts to follow using it?
